Interesting sports weekend as SU decompresses from another failed Yankee post-season. But lots to watch on the sports front in the Fall:
- The brawl in the tunnel at Michigan Stadium after Michigan beat up on Michigan State was bad. It’s a bad look for college sports. We all love the rivalry games but in sports, you have to accept and acknowledge losing (unlike in politics these days for some but I know, “stick to sports” so I will not go there). Michigan State coach, Mel Tucker, likes to fire up his players but SU says he needs to teach them how to lose (they are getting enough chances this year btw). Several of their players beat up on a couple of Michigan players who happened to be in the tunnel at the end of the game. Suspensions are coming and no doubt there will be criminal charges as well (good). Tucker punted on really commenting after the game and we will see just how he handles it. Michigan plays intense games vs. Ohio State every year and SU can never recall seeing anything like that. This is a reflection of leadership at Michigan State. Own it and fix it.
- The Giants came back down to reality yesterday in Seattle. The reality is that their 6 – 2 record is a best case scenario as they have won every close 4th quarter game until this week. Their offensive line has been decimated by injury and Barkley earns every yard he gets as the holes are just never that big. But they are still a great story and have a favorable near term schedule. Daniel Jones is playing with a new fire but if they keep running him this much, something bad will happen. Fans hope they can keep it going.
- Are the Eagles that good? Or is the rest of the NFL a bit mediocre this year?
- What is up with the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray? SU says roll him out of the pocket and let him make plays. He is too short to be a pocket passer and his strength is his speed. If he is on your fantasy team, you know what I mean.
- Kyrie Irving: enough. SU gives props to the Nets’ owner who immediately came out to condemn Irving’s postings of anti-Semitic stories on social media. I caught his post-game comments on Saturday night. A-hole. Great 1-on-1 player but is he the player to be the face of your franchise? He can do a talk show with Alex Jones when he retires – or when he becomes untouchable for any NBA owner. The Nets are a mess.
Election Day is a week from tomorrow. Don’t forget to vote. It matters more this year than ever before.
Let’s go point to point on your statements:
1. Agreed to everything mentioned. The coaches reall need to impress upon their players that there will be zero tolerance for these kinds of acts.
2. Though I am a die hard Giant’s fan they were way overdue on coming back to rea;ity. Even though Seattle looked like the more physcial team and yes, there was an easy dropped pass from the Comeback Palyer of the year in Geno Smith having those 2 fumbles were the difference. The rest of the giants; schedule which includes 4 more loses to Philly twice, the Cowboys and probably Minneoata these are countered by probably 2 wins against the “Redskins,” one against Texas, Detroit and one against Indy. If they really end up with an 11-6 record there is absolutely no question that Brian Daboll wins Coach-Of-The year and Jones receives a 2-3 year deal. I do agree with you nthat he would be more prone in getting hurt with the amount of running he does, but he seems smart enough to know when to slide or to lower his shoulder. He is in very good shape and still a youngster, I don’t know if i would sign him to a longer term contract unless he obtains some real receivers and shows that he can even be a better QB with more weapons. This also might reduce the number of runing.
3. The Eagles are that good. Hurt’s decision making is excellent. They have great balance as well as an excellent offensive Line. The next time they meet Dallas will be quite a rematch. Unfortunately, I think the Giants will get smoked twice.
4. Agree. He could use a pair of high heels so he can see over these guys who are a foot taller than him. Of course he can talk with Doug Flutie or Drew Brees for some advice.
5. I hate Irving as both a player and an idividual. I wish he was removed from the team, loses his money for whatever grounds the nets can come up with and hopefully other teams will stay away from him. He is a bad for a team’s harmony and if his anti semetic position are what they say they are then his teammates should speak up and hopefully he can be eventually banned from the NBA or at the very least thrown off the team without pay.
Simply put about the Yakees failure to beat Houston… Our players are not as good as their players. Though judge should be the unnaminous MVP of the regular season he was outmatched during most of both playoff series. Even though he hit poorly I hope the Yankees sign him to a long term deal. He was really the only shining beacon we have right now, along with Bader…with some other good role players. I am hoping Lemeihu and Benetendi return to their true form. Those two contact hitters along with Bader, Torrez and Rizzo are the nucleus on offense. Cole and Nester are also solid for us. I’m sure there are a few relivers we trust and should keep as well. We need better hitters who plays 3rd base, and left fielder. Jose trevino was a differewnt hitter in the 2nd half of the season…poor. Pick up Degrom and that will be a big boost for us. I don;t trust the rest of our Starters. Keep Carpenter too.
