Chase Headley: End of an Era

Long-time subscriber T. Potter just gave SU a heads up that Chase Headley had been traded.  SU’s crack research division went into action and here is the story:

So, Bryan Mitchell and Headley to San Diego for Jabari Blash.  Say who?  What?  Never heard of him.  The article says it was a salary dump.  But SU is now concerned that the Yankees are going to bring back Todd Frazier.  I mean, how many swing and miss hitters can you tolerate in a line up?  The better option would be to spend some money on pitching.

We are in Baseball Winter Meetings mode so more to come no doubt.  SU had started to grow a little (just a little) fonder of Headley but I will get over this.

  1. or maybe they go with Tyler Wade/Gleyber Torres/Ronald Torreyes trio at second and third to keep salary down so they can afford a pitcher. We don’t need Todd Frazier

  2. I am fine with this. But I too am disturbed that this could create an opening for Todd Frazier. I don’t see any way that I could enjoy myself watching Todd Frazier hit for a full season.

  3. HL- Key to deal is they are now 25mil under the luxury tax threshold. Room for pitching to be added. Hope all is well. Charles

  4. YIKES! Just listened to Buster Olney who said the Headley trade does set them up well now to bring back Todd Frazier and that the Yankees are looking at that with his agent. NOOOOOOOOO!! Abort, abort. And you know that will be a multi-year deal and he will take a discount to come back. Unnecessary. Get younger.

  5. Like Derek Jeter for many, many years pitchers would rather pitch to him than what followed. I really believe he was in the right place at the right time in order to help boost up his numbers. While Frazier is certainly a different kind of hitter he too will enjoy receiving better pitches to hit since the top of the lineup is so fierce. I really feel this will be the case. Personally. I’d hit Didi in the 2 hole which gives you 2 contact hitters before the Guns of Navarone come up. Gardner or Torrez (assuming he lives up to his hype then Didi. holy moly.Hicks Frazier $8 and hicks in the 9th hole.
