OK, are you ready? The Knicks are reportedly close to signing Michael Beasley to a 1-year deal.

For those of you unfamiliar with Beasley, he is instant offense. As in pass him the ball, and it is not coming out of there. He must be right up there in the League leaders for “shots per touches”. SU would guess that Monta Ellis is #1 followed by Kyrie Irving with Carmelo Anthony right behind. In fact, if the Knicks do trade for Irving, they won’t even need a point guard this year which could save a few dollar in payroll. As stated here many times, SU gave up on the Knicks once Isiah Thomas came to town and except for a brief period when they had Linsanity and then the Felton, Chandler, Gallinari line up, well, they are unwatchable. But as a fan, you want to get behind a team that is team-oriented and guys like Beasley are not the answer. Still room on the Brooklyn Nets bandwagon – just let me know.
I cannot understand why there is not more debate (or overbearing boisterous outrage by Stevie Smith) over this Kyrie Irving trade demand and throwing LeBron under the bus. We really have to continue to listen to this? Seriously? Now we are hearing from the former GM that LeBron “casts a shadow over the organization” and that “we did not do enough to develop Kyrie as a player”. What? Read that again and realize how ridiculous that is. Kyrie is an all-star. An Olympic gold medalist. Starting point guard and key contributor on a championship team… a team whose core players made three straight Finals appearances. He took the “championship clinching shot” in 2016. He averaged 25 points and almost 6 assists a game last season. Seems like the dude has developed as a player to me. What am I missing? What defines “development” in today’s NBA?
In regard to LeBron’s “shadow over the organization” comment, what other team and NBA player would not want such a shadow? Seven straight Finals. He makes everyone around him better. He shares the basketball. Those around him get large paydays: Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, JR Smith, Shumpert, etc. Look at the contracts that Mosgov and Dellavedova got when they left Cleveland. Even Richard Jefferson continues to play at a contributing level in the NBA – because he is on LeBron’s team. Seems to me like players who want to pursue a championship would want to play with him, and those who want to earn more money and/or stay in the NBA for a few extra seasons would want to be under his wing (Birdman, Mike Miller, James Jones, etc.).
At least Griffin believes that Kyrie has courage to stand up and demand a trade. I’d rather have LeBron.
Its a shame that a potential big star in Porzingus might never come to fruition with him staying on the Knicks. With players like Beasley, Irving and Melo all shoot first and pass the ball as a last option players will once again start moving around to get open only to realize that they will probably not get the ball so why make such a big effort to get free. With the only teams interesting to watch are those with 3 stars-super stars status…. which might include 3-4 teams at best. Why bother even watching until the semi finals come May. i have never felt so disillusioned with a professional sport nor not really caring much about “my” team… The Knicks. Not only are they unwatchable but it really is such a waste of my good time. The Game to watch, which I will soon embrace is the “Game” of Thrones.
