SU is loving how Mike Tauchman has taken advantage of his opportunity with the Yankees. He hits close to .500 against left-handed pitchers by going to the opposite field (WHAT?????), hits with power, shows fire and is a very good outfielder in all 3 outfield positions. He also has a cheap contract.
While Clint Frazier has potential, he is an edgy guy and really doesn’t fit the Yankee mold of good corporate citizenship. You know he is dying to grow his hair long and sport a beard. SU says he will get his chance soon enough in the off season as he is traded for a young pitcher. SU likes Frazier and he will do well somewhere else. If they really valued him, he would have been called up by now with all of the injuries. Just not going to happen here for Clint.
Meanwhile, the bigger question is: why do you need Giancarlo Stanton then? SU will help you with that answer: You don’t. His $30 million salary can be better spent on pitching. The Yankees will have only one starter this year with an ERA under 5.00 (German). Not exactly the formula for post-season success. Once Stanton returns in September, he will struggle but Boone will be pressured to put him in there for the playoffs. You can only imagine how he will match up with Houston’s hard throwing right-handed starters. Will Boone be brave enough to start Tauchman? The same goes for Urshela who is a better fit (with LeMahieu going to first base).
Decisions, decisions.
If we lose to Houston or the dodgers in the World Series all we need to point to is our mistake in not trading Stanton and Frazier for a big time pitcher or two solid relievers. However, with that said the Reds Big Red Machine had one very good pitcher in Don Gullet, but only decent other pitchers… not dominant. They won with their fierce hitting. I look at our team in a similar manner. Our success against teams above 500 are quite good across the board. Yes, we got swept in Houston but each game was very close. We turned the sides around when they visited us in New your;. If I recall Verlander got a no decision when he pitched here. I still feel that if Bentances comes back and Sevrino shows you something that they may not be 100% dominant but will participate and be somewhat successful as we see them down in the Canyon of Heroes.
Power, contact hitters, some speed, some patience and a batting order with no weaknesses.
Frazier absolutely has potential. Maybe more than Tauchman. But they clearly don’t value him. Maybe it’s because of his defense. We’ve seen it before. Players that seem to do just about everything you ask but the team just doesn’t want to commit to them. Eduardo Nunez comes to mind. Also maybe Ronald Torreyes (who is somehow stuck in the minor leagues right now). I would be happy to trade Frazier for a pitcher.
Stanton should get similar treatment. They simply do not need him at this point. They’ve been getting amazing performances out of so many people. They should be overly cautious and delay each stage of his rehab assignment as much as possible. It should be easy to say that he is not ready for the postseason. It would be unfair to put Boone in the position considering salary or prior home-run titles when making up his lineup. The Stanton acquisition never made sense for the Yankees. Unloading him with that salary will not be easy but there should be some interest if the Yankees absorb some of it.
