Machado is San Diego Bound

SU says thank goodness!  Even though the Yankees were supposedly not interested, SU was worried that if the price got low enough, Hal Steinbrenner might have jumped in.  The good news is that there is no way Bryce Harper signs for anything lower than 10 years, $300 million now, and that will be too rich for the Yankees.  You have to figure he will end up in Philadelphia or Washington now.  This deal with San Diego feels like the Cano signing with Seattle a few years ago.  Big contract for a middle market team that will hamstring them from signing anyone else.  They supposedly have a great farm system.  SU hopes it works out for them.

So, Giancarlo Stanton threw out a few nuggets today:

  • He was hampered by that hamstring injury for a good portion of the season
  • The Yankees think he will be oh so much better this year as he now knows the AL pitchers better.
  • Their confidence in Stanton is one of the major reasons that they stayed out of the Machado/Harper sweepstakes.

SU asks this: how do you explain Andujar having such a strong season when he didn’t know any of the pitchers?  I get the reasoning that when you switch leagues, it takes time to learn the new pitchers but when you are making $30 million a year, you need to be better than that.  SU will be surprised if Stanton hits better than .266 this year and 100 rbis.

Andujar is changing his throwing motion in spring training and the coaches have him using a new ready position.  The question is how much patience will they have with him?  SU says don’t be stupid – show some patience for a guy that is a legit hitter with power.

SU is all in with the Yankees’ roster.  This team is good enough to win the division.  The pitchers will need to stay healthy, of course, and you know they will make moves along the way.

  1. Trying to understand this. After all the wiating. The supposed lack of interest. The alleged collusion. And what is the result? The largest contract in history. I’m wondering if all the owners are sending a couple million to San Diego just to end the discussion and quiet the collusion talk.

Now we just need to make sure the Yankees don’t trade for him in 2 or 3 years.

Talk out of Yankee camp is typical for February. Sanchez showing great power. Tanaka feeling great. Didi and Montgomery will be ready mid-season. All is right in the world.

  2. Doesn’t anyone learn from these 10 year deals? Have any with that length of time ever been considered good for both sides/ Maybe CC comes closest but still not worth it. If they can give Sanchez all that time and patience I’m hopeful someone who is in far better shape in Andujar will do the same. For those who always say “Ah, the sophomore slump will happen to Andujar…. I say BAH to that old wives tale. Ditto for Torrez. I think Stanton knows he has something to prove this year. If Sanchez comes fairly close to his 2017 season and moves up in the 5 hole or even 6 hole with Andujar up there as well…. Stanton will see some juicy pitches. Maybe lets go with Andujar in the 3 hole after Judge and Sanchez in the 5 hole and Torrez in the 6th hole with Voit or Bird in the 7th hole and keep Torrez further back…. but if his average is high and his on base average is high how can you not move him up. Hicks remains our #1 hitter. Jesus with Tulowitski in the 8th hole….wow. Trade Frazier and Bird for a top flight starter in July and off we go….I guess Gardner or Frazier is in the 9th hole. Lefty pitcher play Frazier and visa versa. And when Didi comes back… 105-106 wins may be conservative.

PS And what happens if Kevin Durant comes to New York??? or Zion?
