Cashman is the Master of Deception

SU says don’t be misled by Brian Cashman’s statements.  He has historically said one thing but then done the opposite.  The fact that he is saying why would the Yankees ever look to sign Bryce Harper when they already have so many outfielders is a prime example of that.  His statement that they have had multiple chats with Machado’s agent could also be a ruse to drive up the asking price for Machado for some other team.

SU has been clear: neither Harper or Machado are necessary with a high powered offense that they already have in place.  OK, Didi may be out until August but seriously, you can get by with a pedestrian shortstop until then.  SU does not want the Yankees to trade Andujar or Torres.  This has been the plan: grow your youngsters.  For $30 million a year, you can get two players at $15 million who are almost just as good.  The stats for the $30 million+ players do not add up.  Look at Stanton: 40 home runs but not many doubles and hits .260 with 600 strikeouts.

The need is clearly pitching.  SU will be patient and will trust the process.

  1. As a fan of a team that always shops at the bargain bin I would strongly disagree. Two ok players are almost never as good as one superstar. It’s the marginal contribution that makes the difference and the stars usually make a bigger impact. From a diversification perspective more may be better but quality always wins out.

So now to the juicy rumor floated last night at the winter meetings. A three way trade between the Mets, Yanks and Marlins would certainly create some buzz. It would make me sick to see Syndegaurd in pinstripes but a return of Realmuto and Frazier would lesson the pain. I’d assume the Marlins would insist on Andujar, and two top prospects. Maybe Guiorme from Mets and Florial from Yanks. Not sure if I would go for that but you do need to give to get and from a value perspective it could be considered fair. I’d give it a 3% chance but that would certainly bring the Hot Stove to a Boil! What do you say Yankee fans? How badly do you want the Nordic God?

    1. Jeff, I saw that rumor but can’t believe Cashman will want to deal with the Mets or vice versa. I still would not want to give up the prospects for a pitcher like Syndegaurd. On your other point, I would prefer to have two Didi Gregorius type players than one Stanton. Or have a Didi and a Hicks instead of a Stanton or a Machado. I can put 2 more than solid players into key positions at the same price of a Machado who by the way will likely end up in the $35-40 million range. I still say not worth it.
