OK, Cashman has made his first trade getting Paxton from the Mariners for some prospects including Justus Sheffield who is their top pitching prospect and possibly their top overall guy. SU does not know much about Paxton but he has a lot of strikeouts and is 30 years old. Definitely someone who will be slotted in high in the rotation. It would have been fun to see what happened with Sheffield but the team is built to win now and SU has confidence in Cashman’s judgment (Sonny Gray excluded).
They need to go for it in 2019. SU says good first move. Thoughts?

Paxton is injury prone and is eligible for free agency after the 2020 season- trading for him may give them some more leverage in negotiating for Corbin as they won’t seem so desperate
Don’t know anything about this guy. Is he as good as any of Boston’s top 3? If not then why pick him?
I don’t know much about the two lower level prospects besides Sheffield but this seems like a steal for the Yankees. Paxton is the real deal. He has been a bit of an injury question mark but the guy is a legit top of the rotation pitcher. I am surprised a Florial or Frazier did not have to be included with Sheffield. If they sign Corbin they will have a rotation as good as any other team. Once again, the evil empire strikes back!

Keuchel and hold onto bullpen pieces and I’m good to go. Then Machado and Harper stuff is just theatre.
