Red Sox Land Chris Sale Via Trade with White Sox

So, the rich just got richer in the AL East.  The Red Sox traded a bunch of prospects to get the premier free agent pitcher on the market this winter.  After getting David Price last year, they can add Sale and already have the Cy  Young award winner in Porcello.

SU does not love the long-term, $30 million a year contracts and is fine that the Yankees are not playing in that space.  Cashman has some extra prospects but may be waiting another year when the free agent picks will be a bit more robust.

Are the Red Sox the “beasts of the East?”

  1. I don’t think the Red Sox have throwback uniforms with collars on them so all should be smooth “Sale-ing” this year…

  2. Just happy he went to the Red Sox and not the Nationals! I would not want to face him four or five times a year! Good luck Yanks, LGM!

  3. Yikes. Sale always seems to look great against the Yankees so can’t say I’m happy about this. Can’t say the same thing about Price and we probably just saw the best year we’ll see from Porcello. Still it’s a good job by the Sox addressing one of their only weaknesses from last season.
I can’t comment on the Yankees sitting this one out. Since it was a trade, I don’t know what they would have had to give up. But a top pitcher with years left on a reasonable contract is a good acquisition. If they could have flipped the guys they got for Chapman I would have done it in a minute. But I imagine the White Sox would have wanted more.

  4. You’ve lost that George Steinbrenner feeling. Win today and worry tomorrow for tomorrow. George wanted to win every year…. period…. and quite honestly so do I. We are 2 Starters and one more ace in the bullpen away. That’s pretty close in my estimation to win it all. You never know what will happen to any of our potential upstarts will do. They can even get an injury so where would that leave ya. Win for today…. and get those Met’s fans with those ugly colors off my back….

  5. BTW… replace your picture with one wearing a Yankee hat or (God forbid) a Wolverine cap. GO NORTHWESTERN !!! PINSTRIPE BOWL…

  6. First the Eli bashing and now my picture! Glad to see the Wildcats get into a bowl this year – they were an entertaining team with a good QB. Agree about Hal vs. George but I am ok with the long term view. The last several years have just been boring – truly uninteresting. I think the tide will officially turn in 2018 but you are right about this coming season – they have a shot but will need the young pitchers to figure it out and fast – especially Severino.

  7. Chapman back on the Yank’s roster. The big assumption is that there will be a lead to protect going in to the 9th inning. Discuss.
