News Flash: Knicks are Now Watchable!

SU was actually going to say that the Knicks were “once again” watchable but I couldn’t remember when that was so I changed it (I feel like the NY Post now).  I like the kid Porzingis – he has skills, put on a lot of weight just since July (no doubt hanging with Jason Giambi) and can play both ends.  Of course, he has a lot to learn but much better than I thought he would be.  I also like watching the 2nd unit – they play hard, push the ball and run the court.

Now would be the PERFECT time to move Melo’s contract for an expiring contract.  Get young and push the ball.  Have you watched Golden State and the Clippers?  It’s like a whole new game out there.  Be athletic and take advantage of your speed.  The reason the Knicks do not run is because Melo is slow and doesn’t want to run.  It’s been that way for years.  No reason the Knicks can’t be like those West coast teams and must see tv.  The 2nd unit has that capability and they get after it.  Let them play 25 minutes a game.

There is hope!  But Phil needs to make the brave move.

  1. I’ve only seen a few minutes of a few of the games but the ball is definitely moving around a bit more than last year. I don’t know if it’s the coaching or the system or the players but there’s definitely something different going on. Is it enough? It wasn’t last night. Foul trouble and some mental errors (Lopez stepping over the baseline when in-bounding the ball?) cost them a game that could have been a surprise win. Are they supposed to beat the Cavs? Probably not. But they’re record is going to be pretty awful again if they only beat the teams they’re supposed to beat.
I can’t see anyone trading for Melo. He’s coming off an injury. Too many years left on a bad contract. And I’m not sure he’s a net positive for any team.

  2. Well, Cleveland was missing Kyrie Irving, JR Smith and Shumpert and still won going away. The Knicks don’t have Afflalo. But they have only played playoff teams from last year so far so a 2-3 record is respectable. Fun Fact: the last draft pick of the Knicks that was signed to a 2nd contract was….. Charlie Ward. Now there is a strong record of drafting quality talent. Yikes.

  3. “Charlie Ward is the best QB in the NBA” I don’t remember who said that but what a great line. Speaking of lines, you are right, the second line is a lot more interesting to watch. When the starters are in I’m pretty much only watching to see what Porzingis is doing. The 5 for 18 Melo isolation game is not all that fun to watch.
