NBA Refs: Embarrassing Night

SU hates the way LeBron is a one-man isolation machine for the last 5 minutes of every game.  Hate it, hate it, hate it.  But the referees swallowed their whistles down the stretch on LeBron.  SU cannot recall any other NBA superstar who does not get the respect from the officials on the late foul calls.  Last drive in regulation – fouled 3 times.  In OT, raked across the arm right in front of the ref – how can that not be a foul?  On the jump ball, not a foul by Green?

By the way, it’s not true that JR Smith committed a stupid foul during the post-game intervew.  But JR will bounce back in the games 3 and 4.  He can be a knucklehead but he also has a short memory.  Knick fans know.

  1. And the constant whining and complaining about every call. The refs have to call his stiff arm push off. Once would be great!

  2. It’s true that he initiates his share of contact and he is a constant whiner. But he has plenty of company in this series. The NBA should crack down next year. Expand the rosters and just tee up everyone til it stops.

  3. Worst stretch of officiating I have seen in quite a while. Feels like the ghost of David Stern is back to influence these Finals…

    1. Pete, it’s fine to let the players decide the games in the last few minutes but you can’t change the way you officiate games from how you did it for the first 45 minutes. I do agree that Cleveland probably complains more than any team I can recall led by LeBron who has not committed a foul since 2008. How Draymon Green has not gotten teed up in the playoffs (that I can recall) is beyond me. For a 2nd year player, he is pretty demonstrative.

  4. The backing in by the NBA players when the defender has his feet planted should be considered an offensive foul. Because James is one of the strongest players in the NBA a defender who is not as strong but has established his territory should not be penalized. He does also use his shoulder to push people away.

  5. Yes, good points Andy. It’s like what Shaq used to do against smaller centers when he was in his prime. At one point, the refs were calling the charge on Shaq to try and get that to stop.
